Cherry Slice

This is my Auntie Bessie's recipe as recorded by my Grandma in a cookbook I have of hers. It is a nice one to make for Christmas - you can use a combination of red and green cherries if you want to be really festive.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 cups flour

Topping:
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup candied cherries

Cherry Square
Directions:

Pour over the base. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
